Way Back When… Hats Had Brims
Way Back When… Hats Had Brims is an Early Years mini–history project exploring the fascinating world of hats from the past. Children investigate different types of hats — top hats, bowler hats, hard hats, party hats and more — and learn who wore them, why they were worn, and how hats showed status, occupation, fashion and safety. Through hat hunts, sorting activities, role-play, dressing up, songs, storytelling, designing hats, comparing fashions, and building a hat timeline, children discover how people lived “way back when” and how clothing has changed over time. The unit develops observation, vocabulary, creativity, comparison skills and historical understanding in a playful, practical way.
