Vanishing Cities

Six ways to think like a historian.

Every unit has six sections, one for each of our History Pillars of Learning, so the same disciplinary thinking grows deeper every time children learn.

Chronology

Understanding chronology is vital in helping children position their learning within a linear narrative.

Evidence

Evidence can take various forms, including printed sources, physical artefacts, oral accounts and testimony.

Cause and Consequence

Every event has a cause, and is itself the cause of subsequent events.

Continuity and Change

Historical change happens constantly, while continuity refers to the things that stay the same over time.

Similarities and Differences

Comparison helps children analyse events, societies and beliefs within and across different time periods.

Perspectives and Interpretations

Understanding the settings that shaped people’s lives and actions, and how explanations of the past are built.

Some stories start at your own front door.

Our Place, Our Past and Time Team are built around your own area.

A significant local person, place or event, and a box of real sources from your own record office, placed against the wider world.

Year 6 pupils examining replica Egyptian artefacts, a Pharaoh Queen lesson on the classroom screen

Brought to life on Connect.

Every History unit runs on our Connect platform, so the lesson moves with the class instead of sitting on a slide.

    What schools say about Dimensions.

“As a primary pupil referral unit, creating genuine engagement is essential for our learners. We were looking for a curriculum that places children at the heart of everything and encourages them to immerse themselves in purposeful, meaningful activities. Dimensions has proved to be a strong fit because it enables our pupils to be active, curious learners rather than passive recipients of information. It brings learning to life in a way that motivates them and supports high-quality learning throughout. Plus, the children just love the curriculum!”
    BThe Beacon Referral Unit
