Over the Rainbow
Over the Rainbow is an Early Years unit all about colour, weather, and how colours appear in the world around us. Children explore rainbows, colour mixing, camouflage, seasonal changes, and the emotional meanings of colour. Through stories, songs, sensory play, outdoor discovery, art, and role-play, they learn to talk about colours, sort and classify objects, explore weather patterns, and express themselves creatively. The unit builds vocabulary, early maths, scientific curiosity, fine and gross motor skills, and encourages children to notice beauty and variation in their environment — from painted rainbows and colour trails to blossom, butterflies and everyday coloured objects.
