If You Go Down to the Woods Today… is a woodland-themed Early Years unit centred around teddy bears, forests, and well-loved stories such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Children explore woodland environments through sensory play, trails, den-building, nature collections, outdoor storytelling and teddy bears’ picnics. Indoors and outdoors, they engage with natural materials, role-play huts and hides, look closely at woodland animals, and investigate seasonal changes. The unit develops rich language, early maths and literacy skills, creativity, physical development, collaboration and emotional understanding — all through the familiar, comforting theme of bears and the woods.
